It’s been a rough month and I’ve been unable to do much. It’s at these times that I appreciate the little things in life. Fifteen minutes of peace and quiet to wolf down a few egg tarts and a Hong Kong style milk tea.
Got stuck in a hospital for a few days recently, which also partially explains my lack of writeups. While they don’t give out any stars for hospital dining, their mushroom ravioli was a lot better than the watery slop and lime jello from the hospital cafeterias I’ve seen in the past. Frankly, it was better than some Italian restaurants in Hong Kong. Ended up eating the ravioli five or six times that week.
Before getting locked down, I was on a bit of a ramen kick - with a traditional chicken broth based ramen with some fried burdock root, a much more interesting wagyu beef ramen in a beef bone stock. a unique sea bream ramen with an incredibly gelatinous and rich broth with a dense layer of foam that hid everything else going on in the bowl, and finally. a light, and rather thin clam-based broth ramen. I wasn’t a huge fan of the clam ramen, but apparently, the original outpost in Shibuya has held a Michelin star for many, many years. I much prefer my ramen broth thick and flavourful, but different strokes for different folks I guess.
