Bar Centifolia (Tokyo, Japan)
Not a dining experience, but a neat cocktail bar with no menu, an incredibly dramatic bartender, and an impossible to get into reservation list. We were lucky we were in the area for dinner before it opened, and ran into the madam running the place who reluctantly got us a seat.
Hoshino Coffee (Tokyo, Japan)
Chain souffle pancake restaurant, but absolutely amazing and a must visit every time I’m in Tokyo.
Glitch Coffee (Tokyo, Japan)
Much smaller than the Osaka location, with only three or four tiny tables seating two each, but a complete and relentless focus on sourcing unique expressions of coffee beans, light roasting them, methodical hand drip and letting the coffee speak for itself.
Random Streetside Ramen Stall (Tokyo, Japan)
Not the actual name of the ramen stall, but a random place in Shibuya I stepped into the cold morning after a heavy night of drinking. I thought 1500 JPY for a ramen seemed a bit steep, but wow! I thought there was more char siu than noodles and the massive bowl of shoyu ramen was nearly overflowing as they brought it over. Absolutely hit the spot on a cold day, and to my surprise, I wasn’t even able to finish all of it.
