"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well."
- Virginia Woolf
I’m Epicurus. I write anonymous, opinionated reviews of restaurants worth booking.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve eaten my way through many of the world’s most celebrated dining rooms. At one point, I tried to visit every 3 Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. I made it pretty far down the list.
That taught me two things. First, Michelin stars can be useful. Second, they are nowhere near the full story.
Some of the most memorable meals happen in grand dining rooms. Others happen in small neighbourhood spots, late-night counters, obscure bars, or places that would never trouble an awards list. What matters is not prestige on its own, but whether a restaurant has something real to say.
Before I visit a place, I look into the chefs, their backgrounds, the cuisine, the techniques, the dishes the restaurant is known for, and sometimes even the building it sits in. I want to understand not just what is on the plate, but why it matters.
Epicurus’s List is where I write about fine dining, hard-to-get reservations, local institutions, and restaurants that justify the detour. The aim is not just to show the food, but to understand the craft, context, and culture behind it.
